The first step in configuring the OPC Time Monitor is to specify connections to the
OPC servers you want to get raw data from. You may connect the OPC Time Monitor to any number of OPC Data Access Servers simultaneously. When we did
testing at the OPC Foundation's OPC Interop Workshop we had as many as 10 or more simultaneous connections active at any given time.
In this section you also have the option for express configuration through Auto-Configure.
Right click on the Connections branch and select New:Connection to bring up the dialog below:
Local or remote OPC servers can be connected by specifying or browsing for the computer where the desired OPC Server is
running. If you plan to use remote OPC servers we strongly recommend you read our DCOM Tutorial.
You can browse for available OPC servers by clicking on the button next to the Server Class: field, which displays the dialog shown below:
Once you have your OPC Server connections setup, you can begin to setup Time Folders and Topics. Alternatively, for a
fast track setup, you can choose to have the OPC Time Monitor AutoConfigure itself or import your OPC items from a CSV File
Auto-Configuration
Clicking on File-->Import-->OPC Server Items on the OPC Time Monitor main menus will present the dialog shown below.
You can pick an OPC server connection from your configured Connections and the OPC Time Monitor will create a Time
Folders and Topics for every group and item in your OPC server. The OPC Time Monitor accomplishes this by navigating the
OPC Item Browse interface on your OPC server. If your OPC server does not support item browsing, then this feature will not help you. If you choose to use this option you may proceed directly to deploying your configuration or you may go back
and edit the Time Folders and Time Topics that were configured for you to remove un-wanted items or change scan rate settings, etc.
CSV Import
Clicking on File-->Import-->OPC Server Items on the OPC Time Monitor main menus will present a dialog that allows you to
import tags from a CSV file. This feature will be implemented in a future version of the OPC Time Monitor.
