The next step in OPC Time Monitor configuration is to create Time Folders. A Time
Folder is an organizational tool provided to help you group the items youare interested in. Time Folders appear under the Address Space heading in the OPC
Time Monitor User Interface as shown at the right. Time Folders are similar to Tag Groups in OPC servers that support such a feature.
Time Folders are used to specify a common update rate and deadband for all Time
Topics (i.e. tags) in the folder as well as specify common reset conditions for the aggregates calculated by the OPC Time Monitor. A powerful feature of Time Folders is that they can hold Time Topics from multiple different OPC servers, allowing
you to group your Time Topics around your business needs, not around how the data is available.
To create a Time Folder, right click on the Address Space text and select New:Time Folder, and the dialog below will be
shown. The "Schedule" tab is reserved for a future feature addition to the OPC Time Monitor. On the General Tab, specify a name for the Time Folder, then go to the Control Tab.
On the Time Folder Control tab, you specify if you want all the Time Topics (i.e. tags) in the Time Folder to be reset based
on a common condition. If the "Reset When" checkbox is not checked, then the only way to reset the items will be manually
by writing to the $Reset OPC item that is automatically available for all Time Folders.
If the "Reset When" check box is checked, you can then specify an OPC item on any OPC Server, local or remote, that will
be used to force a reset of all aggregate items in this Time Folder. The reset can occur when the specified OPC item goes to zero or a non-zero value.
Once you have configured your Time Folders, you can create Time Topics within the Time Folder.
